Rick Braun’s New Year’s Eve

Musicians

Our lineup this year!

Rick Braun

As host of this signature event each year, Rick Braun uses his formidable talent to create truly magical experiences along with business partner Sandy Riser.  For the Rick Braun’s New Year’s Eve Getaway event, Rick works tirelessly to create a unique and unforgettable experience.  Each year for New Year’s Eve, Rick brings top jazz artists with him and this year is no exception!

Rick has hosted this event, which benefits families affected by autism, for more than a decade. His daughter, Emma, is autistic and Braun has made it a mission to bring awareness to autism. “One of my passions is just trying to help people who are affected by autism. It is really important for me to just reach out and help wherever I can,” shares the inspiring musician.

Nearly 20 years into his solo career, Rick Braun has done just about everything, from backing the likes of Rod Stewart and Sade, to stepping out into the spotlight as a vocalist and a master of the trumpet and flugelhorn.

His most recent recordings continue to reflect his versatility with the instrumental album Can You Feel It and his vocal talents in Rick Braun Sings With Strings. Rick was getting into the swing of the holiday season with his first-ever Christmas album, Swingin’ In The Snow.  In July 2017, Rick released his CD titled Around the Horn, for our listening pleasure and this year joined the Summer Horns team with a new CD coming out in June!

Boney James

It’s been a full quarter-century since a young saxophonist and composer released his debut recording as a leader, Trust. And this past year Boney released his 16th album, Honestly. If you sense a direct line between those titles, you’ve already come a long way toward understanding what motivates the four-time GRAMMY nominee and multi-platinum-selling musician.

“I’m fighting the good fight to be my own artist and not be pigeonholed,” says the genre-blurring James. “With a record’s title I always try to find something that will communicate the feeling I get when I listen to it. The feeling I get with this music is a sense of sincerity and intimacy. The word ‘honestly’ really reflects how I aspire to live my life and create my music. One of the great things about music is how powerful it is. It can totally transport people.”

Honestly follows futuresoul, James’ 2015 release which spent 11 weeks at #1 on the Billboard Contemporary Jazz Chart. The New York Times raved, “Boney James performs with panache…His arc as a soloist is emotional…he can paint a scene.”

Rick and Boney released their joint CD Shake It Up in 2000 and audiences have been asking them to perform together ever since.  This year it is finally happening at our event – don’t miss it!

The Sax Pack

The idea of The Sax Pack originated in 2004 with saxophonist Jeff Kashiwa after he saw a movie about the “Rat Pack,” a group of legendary entertainers led by Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis, Jr.  So when our attendees in December 2017 voted for our theme of The Rat Pack for this year, there was no choice but to make sure these three saxophonists were performing!

Inspired by their showmanship and camaraderie, Kashiwa came up with the name The Sax Pack and called on some of his saxophone peers and started a new group that would feature the instrument, as well as their collective musical passion for jazz, funk and R&B.  Along with being cohesive musically, the trio share a unique and comical camaraderie on stage.

Backed by a tight rhythm section, the talented trio combine their life-long love of music and their passion for performance, to make an impact on audiences that love music as much as they do.

Committed to sharing the excitement, spontaneity and creative energy that flows between them on stage, The Sax Pack inspires an audience far beyond the duration of a show.

The well-known saxophonists are excited to create a show that combines their individual styles and diverse backgrounds for a fresh approach to the music that inspired them all to become musicians: jazz.

We cannot wait to have them as our opening act on the big night!

Peter White

Five years ago we unveiled Start the Party Early – a casual show the night before New Year’s Eve where our attendees could hang out and get the engine of the event revving.  Every year it exceeds the year before, so when we were considering who was going to top last year…we knew Peter White was our man!

Over the years, Peter White has maintained a reputation as one of the most versatile and prolific acoustic guitarists on the contemporary jazz landscape. Armed with an unparalleled combination of lyricism and energy, he combines elements of jazz, pop and classical guitar to create a sound that is singular and at the same time accessible to a broad audience.

Born in 1954 in Luton, a small town north of London and as a child, he learned to play several musical instruments, including the clarinet, trombone, violin and piano. And of course, like so many youngsters growing up during the heyday of the Beatles and the Rolling Stones, he gravitated to the guitar.

In a career that spans nearly four decades, over a dozen solo recordings and countless performances, White insists that it’s the faces in the crowd and the fans that keep the experience fresh. “I’ll play a live show, and someone will come to me afterward and say, ‘Oh, I loved this CD,’ or ‘This song helped me through a bad time,’” he explains. “Or I get emails from people saying, ‘Oh, I love the way you covered one of my favorite songs on your record back in 1994.’ The idea that someone can write me an email and tell me about something I did on a record that was released 15 years ago – you can’t buy that. That’s priceless. That’s what keeps me going – the idea that people out there really care about what I do, the idea that I’ve made a difference for someone.”

Start the Party Early is an optional concert on 12/30!  Don’t miss it – this show always sells out!

Selina Albright

With a last name associated with musical excellence, Selina Albright is a soulful singer-songwriter with versatility that comes from years of listening to many origins and languages of music. Her angelic tone adds character and emotion to any ballad, yet her powerful wailing and energetic stage presence commands attention.

Albright developed her onstage charisma and vocal technique from being exposed to legendary artists, such as Whitney Houston, Ella Fitzgerald, Dinah Washington, Lalah Hathaway, and Tina Turner.

Her intimate, connective writing style comes from experiences and aspirations from her own life. When you listen to her music, you are introduced to a private piece of who Albright is, has been, or is becoming.

Selina Albright’s R&B/Soul 2013 release entitled “Brighter” topped the UK Soul Chart for four weeks, and her sassy 2010 Jazz original “You and I,” was featured on iTunes’ “Top 100 Downloads” list for the genre of Jazz in 2010!  Her most recent release “Sun Comes Up” (2016) primed the market for Albright’s first full-length project, a Billboard chart-topping R&B/Soul CD entitled Conversations, released this past year!

Selina was with us almost ten years ago when she performed with her dad and transfixed the audience.  We are pretty sure that she will do that again this year!
